When burning a candle for the first time, it is important to give it a "memory burn". For example: a candle with a 3" in diameter should be burned for three hours to establish its "memory". This allows your jar candle to establish a full melt pool increasing the scent throw and making your candle burn evenly. Should this happen don't discard your candle just simply place your candle on your Twistavants Hot Plate and Warmer and enjoy it without the flame. Discontinue burning container candles when there is 1/4 inch of wax left in the bottom. Then use your Twistavants Hot Plate to finish your candle without the flame.
- Never leave your candle unattended, extinguish all candles before leaving or going to sleep. Do not place your candles in windows where blinds or curtains can catch fire. Drafts or extreme room temperatures can cause uneven burn.
- If a wick should ever move to one side while burning, extinguish candle, and reposition wick to the center and allow your candle to dry before burning again.
- No candle can be soot free, but black soot is caused by a candle that is smoking (in our candles this is typically from too long of a wick.)
There could be several reasons why you are getting black soot.
- First and most importantly, make sure that you trim the wick to 1/4" each and every time before you light your candle.
- Second, make sure that you are not burning your candle in a draft. Any draft of wind will make the candle flame flicker and smoke.
- Third, when you are trimming your candle wicks, do not leave the trimmings in the candle wax this will cause black soot.
- Fourth, ensure that there is enough air space around your candle. Do not burn in a cubbyhole or bookshelf. This inhibits the amount of oxygen that is getting to the wick of the candle and will cause black soot to form.
- Always keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
TIPS ON HOW TO CLEAN-UP CANDLE WAX:
Take precautions to prevent melted wax from getting on clothes, furniture and counters. Candle wax can be removed from garments and furniture. All wax spills are best removed after the wax has hardened. Wax spilled on wool, for example, can be refrigerated, and then brushed out when the wax is cold and brittle. Many liquid household cleaners will dissolve wax. Read directions before using. To remove wax from carpet, set your iron on low heat and get an old towel. Place the towel on the spilled wax and press down with the iron. The towel will absorb the wax. Keep repeating this using different spots on the towel until all the wax substance is out of the carpet. If a little wax remains and the iron method has gotten all it can, let remaining wax harden and brush carpet and vacuum. Then try using a liquid carpet cleaner to remove any coloring that may have remained.
And Always Remember: "Be Safe" when burning your Twistavants
